BMX to Air on U.S. Television for the First Time Since the 2008 Beijing Olympics

NBC Sports Coverage Begins this Sunday August 21, 2011 at 3:30 p.m. ET The 2012 London Olympics BMX track makes its debut as NBC Sports presents the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup Series on Sunday, 3:30-4:30 p.m. ET. The event brings the world’s top BMX riders to the brand new BMX track in London, which was built for the 2012 Olympic Games. This is the first time any BMX riders will be competing on this track.

Chrome Welcomes Wonka To The Familia

Famed Fixed Gear Freestyle Bike Rider, Ed “Wonka” Laforte Joins the Chrome Familia. Born and raised in New York City, Wonka first got introduced to riding fixed gear bikes at the age of 17 when he was working as a messenger. In the winter of 2008 he was nearly killed when hit by a van while riding his bike. Coming off of those related injuries that summer is when the fixed-gear freestyle caught fire and motivated Wonka to apply his BMX and skateboarding approach to this new medium.

Laura Smulders Wins EC final Round

The Team MeyBo/Bensink BMX Gates returns home with a very good feeling after the European Final Rounds in Haaksbergen, The Netherlands. On Sunday Laura Smulders took the victory at the junior women category and she became second in the final ranking. Her younger sister Merel got the silver medal at the girls 13; in the same category Karo Vertessen became fourth. Also Niels Bensink took the fourth place at the boys 15. In the elite men category Rihards Veide could reach the final, what gives him confidence for the upcoming World Championships.

Two National Titles for Meybo/Bensink BMX Gates

Merel Smulders in Holland and Karo Vertessen in Belgium have won in their country the national title in their age group, girls 13-14. Vertessen surprised because she was ill that day, but nevertheless she could take the victory. The national championships were held in Baarn (Holland) and Massenhoven (Belgium).

Sanctioning of BMX Racing is Unified in the United States

From its humble beginnings in the 1970’s to its inclusion in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, BMX racing has seen many changes through the years. Many sanctioning bodies have come and gone during the 40 year history of the sport, but two have remained. The American Bicycle Association (ABA) and the National Bicycle League (NBL) have both been in operation since the 1970’s and now, like so many sports leagues, the two have joined forces and will operate as USA BMX.

Morphine Industries – NashVegas Race Report

Nashville is famous for country music and Music City BMX. We’re not into country music but we can’t pass up a rad track with big jumps, so we made the trip to NashVegas to put our new DK Race Forks to the test. The track was fast and burly….and the weather was HOT! The racing action was just as hot as the weather, as every class main looked like a main at Grands. This made for some killer racing and our riders were in the mix every time.
